Russell regularly undertakes work at three Zoos in New Zealand. Auckland Zoo, Hamilton Zoo and the Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary.
He provides dental care for a wide range of species including Golden Lion Tamarins, Squirrel Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, Orang-utans, Chimpanzees, Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs, Leopards, Tasmanian Devils, Wallaby’s, Madagascar Lemurs, African Wild Dogs and a Kune Kune Pig.
Between December 2016 and December 2017 Russell treated the teeth of 23 of the large cats at Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary.
This involved in a lot of cases multiple root canals and some extractions. Zoo dentistry has involved working on a big variation in size of animal as well as presentation and variety of teeth.
